Hello; John Deere s new autonomous tractor concept is a very compact electric drive unit with integrated attachment. The tractor has a total output of 500kW and can be equipped with either wheels or tracks. Far more useful to just have the autonomous functions on a normal tractor so it can go full auto or manually controlled when the need arises which will be a lot. At this point, why not have an electric track system like you have with trolleys to at least charge the batteries within certain parameters? I mean you could you could have a system of workers that move high voltage line from one side of the farm to the other and the machine leeches to it. Perhaps not contact, but every 25,40,50 yards or so in either direction depending on a variety of factors. It’s not going to be cheap, but it’s definitely an investment and you could pay for low skilled people to do that dirty work. Is this better than autonomous diesels? I don’t know, but this would be great in flat terrain that doesn’t need much maneuvering or crazy terrain navigation.
