How Landing F-15 on US Aircraft Carrier Could Turn into a Disaster

Welcome back to the our channel for a discussion about why the F-15 can’t land on an aircraft carrier and how some of the most extreme carrier landings were pulled off. The F-15 is a development of the YF-17  the failed competitor of the F-16. The reason the F-18 had to land on a Forrestal class carrier is that the island would be too far back for the aircraft to fit on every other (two elevators forward vs one). Flatley was the Captain of the USS Saratoga when I was stationed on it a great guy. I believe he has more carrier landings than anyone else. Landing a 4 engine STOL onto a super carrier was a huge achievement. But I don't think this was the most dangerous carrier landing. Dunning's landings on HMS Furious in 1917 were more challenging. Eric Brown's landing of a twin engined Mosquito onto a tiny escort carrier was also more dangerous. But if the Hurcules landing had gone wrong, there would have been an order of magnitude more carnage.
