Welcome back to the our channel for a feature on the US submariners testing their abilities to operate a multibillion-dollar US Navy submarine in the harsh Arctic environment. Back in 1976 I was with 1 Combat Engineer Regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces, we went on winter training with the American Forces at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska. We showed with all our winter gera and were surprised when the American Forces were using 6 foot snowshoes, we were using 3 foot snowshoes, and rubber boots at -25 F. All the Canadian equipment had NATO stock numbers that the Americans were unaware of, so our supply people gave the American supply people all the NATO stock numbers and they started ordering all the winter gear. Has anyone tried using the new hydrophobic chemical technology to combat this problem with icing of airplane wings/bodies? seems like a no-brainer to eliminate the need for this procedure in the first place.
