Welcome back to our channel for a feature on the unique equipment used by the US Air Force and other nations around the world to capture and stop damaged planes, or aircraft handling an emergency situation on land based runways. I think the F-15 is incredibly underrated, for its speed and range and age it’s truly a work of engineering. I love the boxy look. Not to mention statistically is the most successful air to air platform ever with 102 wins and 0 losses. I hope the F-15 sees many more safe years of operation. It’s shocking to see it competing with the 5th generations all these years later! The Navy has been doing this since the end of WWII as basically the aircraft is harshly thrown off the deck, at about 2 G's or higher, then they are caught and brought from landing speed to stopped in under 200' all day long every day. The F-15 isn't built as heavy as the old F-14 had to be as practically every flight started with a 2.5 G cat shot and then roughly 200kts to 0 in the landing in about 200', the Trap. The F-15 is a outstanding plane but IT couldn't handle the massive stress if it had to do this day in and day out for decades.
